This event benefited from extensive media coverage in Spain.
What is occulture? When the occult and culture go together, so as to see them from a new angle leading to access to knowledge of the invisible. Art, esotericism, fashion, hermeticism, myths (to name a few) do not always mix. But in this case, yes. And that’s even the goal.
The term occulture comes from the artist Genesis P-Orridege; but its definition is vague: it is probably a mixture between occult traditions, spiritual movements and alternative and avant-garde cultures. From Aleister Crowley to William S Burroughs, from Nicolas Roerich to the music composer John Tavener. The common thread is certainly a desire to surpass, even transgress and provoke in the face of dogmas and repression; but in a desire to bring knowledge and gnosis through the use of a certain lost vocabulary or a symbolic language whose secret code has been hacked.
It is an intermediary between the work of art and the ritual, folklore and fashion, the inner journey and the poetic experience; in a unity between knowledge and experience, the symbol and the symbolized.
