The winter solstice occurs on December 21 or 22. The apparent position of the sun reaches its greatest inclination relative to the celestial equator. This day is the shortest of the year, so the night is the longest. For 2 or 3 days, at the astronomical level, the orientation of the earth remains the same. Then on the night of the 24th to the 25th, the days begin to lengthen again. The sun is reborn, according to the vision of the ancients.
This unique moment of the winter solstice is an important marker, it corresponds to the end of the dark period. It is the tipping point between the darkness of autumn and the return of the sun, between darkness and the renewal of light, between one’s own darkness and that of the world, and the return of the inner light.
The winter solstice is a new birth of the solar principle in the darkness, a rebirth of its consciousness after crossing its shadow. Finishing crossing one’s own inner shadows means resonating with the cosmos, connecting one’s little person with the great celestial cycles. Faced with the demands of life, going through trials, observing the chaos of the world in fear and feeling helpless…
The darkest days of the year can make us aware of the greatness of divine powers. The lower forces have the most power during this period. They try to absorb our world by making it vibrate downward to their low frequencies. This can create an atmosphere of fear and panic, cause physical and psychological symptoms on which these lower forces feed. Fears cause destabilization and weakening. But perceiving this darkness as a consequence of this time of year can give a grandiose explanation, can make us aware that these dark forces obey a greater cosmic order, that the negative events in our lives and in the world have a divine role.
The manifestation of evil is limited by these divine forces. This struggle between darkness and light is played out in each of us. But we are destined to embody the divine spark in ourselves and in our earthly plane. This solstice teaches us that it is at the darkest moment that light can begin to incarnate, in ourselves and in the world. It is at the moment of greatest torment that consciousness can break through. We must touch rock bottom in order to be enlightened.
Crossing the darkness becomes a spiritual initiation. This ascent begins at the time of the winter solstice, the lowest point of the year. The spiritual light in us will then grow until it reaches its peak at the summer solstice.
